WTMS Students Selected as 2015 Veterans Day Essay Contest Winners

The Historical Society of Orange Park and the Town of Orange Park will host the Annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 AM, Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Veterans Memorial in Historic Magnolia Cemetery. We are proud to once again present the winning entries in our annual Veterans Day Essay Contest at this year's ceremony. This year's winners are as follows:

Erie VA Announces the Veterans Day Essay Contest Winners

On November 11, 2015 in Walsh Gymnasium, the community and Bement CUSD 5 hosted a program honoring our community's veterans. Over 25 servicemen spanning from the 1950s to present day took part. Mr. Jerry Manint ran the program, with the assistance of Mr. Doug Kepley and Mrs. Linda Taylor.The BHS band, directed by Doug Kepley, performed a medley of the service songs (Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy), and the choir, directed by Angie Corum, sang The Star Spangled Banner, and God Bless The USA. Eagle Scouts Terran Trusner and Josh Watzlawick demonstrated the proper way of folding a flag and discussed the meaning of each fold. In addition, four essayists (two from BMS and two from BHS) were chosen to read their Veterans Day essay-from BMS, Hailey Gadbury and Braden Fogerson, and from BHS, Ali Johnson and Aubrey Glennon.

The Veterans Day essay contest was open to students in grades 5-8 residing or attending any school within the City of Hoboken. Additional winners were named from each school participating in the contest, including Jaime Rodriguez from Connors School, Jayson Lombardo from Calabro School, and Julienne Trent from Hoboken Catholic Academy.

2012 KXGN Veterans Day Essay Contest Winners

3 p.m.: Veterans Day observance ceremony begins in the Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion, led by the Parade of Flags featuring fourth grade students from Mobile and Baldwin counties. Emily Danforth, 2015 Miss University of Mobile, will perform the National Anthem and will then be joined by the USS Alabama Crewmates for the Pledge of Allegiance. 2015 Distinguished Young Woman Maire Nakada of Alaska will serve as keynote speaker. The 2014 Veterans Day essay contest winners, Emily McEniry of Bayside Academy and Tess Bodiford of Knollwood Christian School, will be reading their winning essays during the program. The Baker High School Band will be performing patriotic music for the event. The Satsuma ROTC and Mobile Azalea Trail Maids will also participate.

(Queens, NY) – Today, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, announced the winner of the second annual Veterans Day essay competition for students in New York’s 14th Congressional District. Krushi Patel, an 8th grader at I.S. 61 in Corona, placed first out of nearly 500 students who participated. Crowley presented Krushi with a statement that was entered into the Congressional Record and requested an American flag be flown over the U.S. Capitol in honor of her essay.
